We'd had a long tiring day, travelling, and I remembered reading about a well reviewed B&B near Biar. We'd arrived in Villena, a large bustling town, certainly with accommodation, however the lure of finding something away from the bustle and easy to get to was a strong incentive.
The sun was setting, we'd negotiated our way through Villena and drove towards what we were sure was Biar. There was a castle bathed in sunlight ahead, just 8 kms away, the sign said, we hoped we'd find directions to the the B&B, I'd read about. Found our way to the closed Tourist Info, took about 3 steps towards what seemed to be a coffee shop/bar to enquire about directions to "the" good B&B. Unable to speak a word of english, we were left in no doubt, by a very energetic, enthusastic operator they had accommodation would we like to take a look.
How lucky we were, there was no need to drive another mile, it was delightful, right in the very heart of little Biar, a few steps from the wonderful cathederal with a sign, saying, built in 1519. Towering over the little (in Spanish terms) village bathed now in the early evening light was the old castle.
Nothing was a effort for the proprietor, such an energetic wonderful young man.
We enjoyed our stay so much we made a huge effort to get back there about 2 weeks later,on our way to Alicante, to catch our flight home.
